1st Grade Field Trip to LCHS CTAE Class

On Thursday, April 16, 2026, first-grade students from Cottrell Elementary School visited Lumpkin County High School’s CTAE classes for a spring field trip. Sponsored by a grant from the Lumpkin County Education Foundation, the students participated in an exciting day of hands-on, engaging and educational activities.

Under the guidance of CTAE instructors and high school mentors, participants engaged in hands-on learning experiences designed to provide meaningful insights into these professional fields.

The learning activities included practicing kitchen safety protocols and preparing nutritional snacks; applying construction techniques to building a small house with a kit; assembling a model lego car in automotive class; learning about CPR and emergency response procedures; operating video cameras and singing in audio-visual class; examining a robot and learning about its practical real-world uses; recognizing logos in marketing and participating in hands-on rotations designed and implemented by Teaching As a Profession Students.

The overall experience  proved highly beneficial for both elementary and secondary students. Participants expressed significant enthusiasm, with many characterizing the experience as a highlight of the year. Furthermore, CTAE instructors observed leadership and interpersonal engagement among high school students as they mentored the younger students.

Through the generous support of the Lumpkin County Education Foundation, students received several educational resources and commemorative items to reinforce their learning. Each participant was provided with a backpack to transport materials between stations, including a model car, a culinary apron, a guitar pick, a seedling, and a CPR face shield, in addition to the nutritional snacks prepared during the culinary arts rotation.
