Spanish Language & Culture Immersion Field Trip
Cultural Immersion for Spanish II and Spanish IV Students at Plaza Fiesta
The Plaza Fiesta cultural immersion project provided 40 students from Señor Rambin’s Spanish classes with a unique opportunity to apply their classroom learning in a real-world setting. Located in Chamblee, Georgia, this vibrant Hispanic hub served as an "authentic classroom" where students from Lumpkin County could overcome their limited local exposure to the language. By navigating a space filled with Spanish-language signage and native speakers, the program aimed to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical application, fostering greater confidence and a genuine appreciation for Hispanic culture.
During the excursion, students participated in structured activities including a scavenger hunt and a cultural dining experience where they ordered meals entirely in Spanish. These interactions with shopkeepers and community members allowed students to practice their listening and speaking skills in high-stakes, yet supportive, environments. The project concluded with reflective journal entries and presentations, ensuring that the hands-on experience translated into lasting academic growth and a renewed motivation to pursue further language studies.
