Students tried to determine the bloodline of a dog mascot and then a Dog DNA test was conducted.

Mining Field Trip & Cookie Mining Lab

This was a two part activity: The first part was a field trip to Consolidated Mines and the second part was the to conduct the "Cookie Mining Lab".

Anti-Bullying Assembly for K-5 Students

Place to be Greater- Mountains, Music & Mural

Led by Allison Head at Cottrell Elementary School in Spring 2026, this $5,000 artist-in-residence project engaged 600 PreK-5th grade students in creating collaborative murals, music, and a documentary video inspired by their local mountain landscape and school values.

Life Skills Through Real-World Simulations

The project served students with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities and students on the autism spectrum, helping them develop independence through practical, real-world daily living experiences.

Real World Application of Biology Genetic Engineering

The project gave students hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques, including DNA analysis and genetic experiments, allowing them to apply classroom concepts to real-world biotechnology and laboratory practices.

1st Grade Field Trip to LCHS CTAE Class

First grade students from Cottrell Elementary School participated in a hands-on field trip to Lumpkin County High School where they explored agriculture, culinary arts, carpentry, technology, and other career pathways through interactive learning stations that supported Georgia science, social studies, and CTAE standards.
